Nissan has upgraded it's popular ST-X dual cab Navara utility with massive increases in torque from the 2.5 litre turbo-diesel engine. The vehicle has also been given an exterior makeover, changes to the interior and now boasts dual zone airconditioning.
More importantly safety has been upgraded with the vehicle now having crash-saving electronic stability program. The engine changes are significant with the new Navara ST-X now having 140 kW of power, up from 126 kW, but more importantly torque is now 450 Nm, up from an already healthy 403 Nm.
The improvement has been achieved by tuning the 2.5 litre turbo diesel and also results in improved economy and few emissions. The changes include a new direct injection system, operating from 2000 bar, up from 1800 bar, resulting in a finer spray being atomised into the cylinders. There's also a new cylinder head with parallel ports with smoother intake and exhaust flows.
Nissan claim the resulting improvement in economy will see the Navara achieve 8.5 litres/100 km, a 13 per cent improvement, or 1.3 litres less fuel used every 100 km. This is from the six speed manual variant. The auto is down from 10.5 litres/100 km to 9.0 litres/100 km or 14 per cent.
The current 198 kW V6 4.0 litre petrol variant does not change. The new-look 2010 dual cab also gets a re-profiled front end styling. This includes a new bonnet, changed grille and new bumper. New 17 inch alloy wheels give the vehicle a more sporty appearance. The ST-X now has six airbags, Bluetooth connectivity, MP3 input and drive computer. The Series 4 Nissan Navara ST-X comes in four variants.
