Amidst all the totally unaffordable glitz and glamour at the Melbourne Motor Show - think Lamborghini Aventador, Lexus LFA, Audi R8 GT and the like - a very special Aussie Ford Falcon stood out.
Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) showed a concept car, the first time it has ever done so. Naturally it chose the Australian International Motor Show in Melbourne, its home base to do so.
Looking sinister in a menacing all-black manner, the FPV GT Concept had a matte black stripe on the bonnet, rear wing and the race-style rear diffuser.
Large brake ducts that are incorporated in the lower area of the front are a very visual feature. Black frames are used to enhance the rear light graphics.
The FPV Concept sits on 19-inch, one-piece, forged alloy rims finished in black. The wheels are 8.0 inches wide at the front and 9.5 inches wide at the rear, and carry special Dunlop SP Sportmaxx GT tyres.
But it’s not all about show. Underneath the FPV Concept there is track-tuned suspension and a performance brake package. The latter includes six-piston brake calipers at the front and four-piston brake calipers at the rear. Again, these are finished in basic black.
Inside, there’s black leather trim and an all-black dash treatment that includes Ford’s stunning new interior command centre (ICC).
Power is supplied by a supercharged Boss 5.0-litre V8 engine. Running rearwards there’s a stainless steel high-flow exhaust system with quad black tips.
FPV’s chief, Rod Barrett said, "We’ve equipped the vehicle with the GT’s ‘most ticked’ options, such as leather trim and reversing camera. That way, it’s a reflection of what our buyers are choosing and gives us a ‘real world’ basis to get people thinking. We wanted to demonstrate the possibilities, explore the future and gauge public opinion to assist us with the evolution of FPV product.”
Let’s hope we see this ultra-hot FPV Concept turned into the real deal one day soon. |
