A few weeks back we ended our story on the stunning concept FPV V8 displayed at the Melbourne Motor Show by saying, “
Let’s hope we see this ultra-hot FPV Concept turned into the real deal one day soon.” Our wishes have quickly come true as FPV has announced the concept will be put into production, and called the GT Black.

That’s the good news, the bad news is that only 125 are to be built. So if you’re serious it’s important you contact your FPV dealer as soon as possible - yesterday would have been better...

2011 FPV GT Black side

Black is the new black in the hot automotive scene at present, with Mercedes-Benz and Holden amongst others producing special editions Blacks.

FPV has excelled itself with its interpretation of this sinister black theme. There are those who may feel that black matte stripes on black paint doesn’t make sense, but these people just don’t understand what it’s all about.

Black is used everywhere on this hot FPV Falcon; on the 19-inch GT alloy wheels, air intake grilles, foglight bezels, rear light surrounds, even the tips of the exhaust tailpipes.

The forged alloy wheel rims are 8.0 inches wide at the front and 9.5 inches wide at the rear, they carry seriously good Dunlop SP Sportmaxx GT tyres.

2011 FPV GT Black front

The FPV GT Black limited edition is powered by the Boss 335 5.0-litre supercharged engine with a maximum power output of 335 kW at 5750 rpm. A major advantage of supercharging is the ability to spread torque across the rev band. FPV’s engineers have done an excellent job and the engine delivers maximum torque of 570 Nm all the way from 2200 to 5500 revs.

Underneath the FPV Concept there is track-tuned suspension and a performance brake package. The latter includes six-piston brake calipers at the front and four-piston brake calipers at the rear. Though the show car in Melbourne had the calipers finished in black, the production model has them in stand-out red. Which is an interesting move in the styling stakes, and makes them a standout feature.

Inside, there’s black leather trim and an all-black dash treatment that includes Ford’s new design of interior command centre (ICC). Even the tissue box is now finished in black!

2011 FPV GT Black rear

All-in-all a stunning high-performance Ford Falcon that’s sold for most modest price. The recommended retail for the FPV GT Black is just $74,290 plus on-road costs.

Every GT Black sold will come with a build badge unique to it, as well as a certificate of authenticity.
