Toyota’s announcement of a special Aurion model called White is an interesting move in the family car market in Australia. Sales of locally built sedans have slipped considerably in recent years, so the bargain priced Aurion White is intended to put a bit of spark into the sales scene.
Toyota Aurion White is based on the Aurion Prodigy and has $3000 in additional features while selling at the same price as the Prodigy on which it is based. With a recommended retail price is $44,990 you get a lot of Australian-made car for your money. Keep in mind that on-road charges have to be added, but the White will still come in at comfortably under $50,000.
To give it a striking appearance the White borrows its lower body kit, which includes side skirts as well as front and rear units, from the Toyota Aurion Sportivo. Unique to this limited edition model are the grey-finished, 17-inch alloy wheels.
The White has dark tinted headlamps and clear lens tail-lamps, as well as chrome door handles and dual chrome exhaust diffusers. Finishing off the external look are special Aurion White badges.
However, to keep costs under control the white paint used in the White, tagged Crystal Pearl, isn’t a unique colour to this model. It’s on offer on other Aurions as well as Camrys.
Arguably, the biggest feature in the Toyota Aurion White is the electric tilt-and-slide moonroof.
Inside, this Aurion has a three-spoke ‘premium’ steering wheel with audio controls; a multifunction trip computer, and leather-accented seats with embroidered Aurion logos on the front seat backs. The dashboard is finished in a carbon fibre-look. There are carpet floor mats with Aurion logo in contrasting stitching.
Standard features carried over from the Aurion Prodigy include a powered driver's seat, cruise control, electric windows and mirrors, remote central locking outlets and a security alarm.
Aurion’s 3.5-litre twin-cam V6 develops up to 200 kW of power, and 336Nm of torque at 4700rpm on standard unleaded petrol. It is rated at 9.9 litres per hundred kilometres on the Australian combined fuel consumption test cycle. Toyota didn’t see any need to squeeze more power out of the powerplant for this sporty looking limited edition model as the engine already has plenty of punch.
Unlike many so-called limited edition models, that are ‘limited’ only to the number that sales people can hustle out of the showroom doors, the Aurion White is strictly limited, only 250 are to be built. If you are halfway interested in might we worth making a quick phone call to your Toyota dealer to have one put aside. |
