In comparing private vehicle whole of life costs, NRMA Motoring & Services has announced that Hyundai Motor Company’s Getz S and i30 SX CRDi turbo Diesel models are the most cost effective vehicles to own and operate within their categories.

"We are delighted that Hyundai product is continuing to win recognition and awards in Australia," said Kevin McCann, Hyundai’s Director of Sales and Marketing.

"To win these categories is tremendous and demonstrates that in these challenging times, the range of high quality award-winning Hyundai vehicles is more relevant than ever."

"Hyundai vehicles – including the i30 SX and iMax which also recently collected Australia’s Best Cars 2008 awards – rated well, offering the cheapest whole of life costs." said Brad O’Hara, NRMA operating costs expert.

The results were released in conjunction with NRMA Motoring & Services launching a free online operating and fuel cost calculator.

"The most impressive benefit of the online calculator is that it can be used in real-time, reflecting the most up-to-date petrol prices," Mr O’Hara said.

"Costs are calculated using average retail prices and take into account depreciation, opportunity interest, registration, comprehensive insurance, roadside assistance, maintenance and repairs and fuel."

Calculations are for private ownership in New South Wales, based on an annual distance of 15,000 kilometres travelled over an ownership period of five years.

The figures used in the car operating and fuel costs calculator are taken from the NRMA’s 2008 Private Vehicle Operating Costs Report. The online tool is available at www.mynrma.com.au/runningcosts.
