Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) has announced a special Limited Edition ‘20 Years of Maloo R8’ to celebrate the 1990 launch of the hot utility that has changed the face of Australian high-performance motoring. Prior to the HSV Maloo being introduced sports coupes were the vehicle of choice amongst Australian buyers looking for something special, now hot, lowered, dressed-up utes are all the rage.
HSV's Maloo was introduced to a stunned audience at the Sydney Motor Show in October 1990. Since then it has really come of age, pioneering the hot ute segment with the installation of airbags, ABS brakes, high-performance braking systems, electronic stability control, and traction control. Not to forget comfort items like climate control air conditioning.
In the most recent HSV Maloo we have seen the addition of features like as launch control, ESC with a competition mode. As well as the distinctive use of daytime running lamps on the E2 Maloo R8.
Now we have HSV’s ‘20 Years of Maloo R8’ that's limited to just 100 units – so you had better move quickly if you want your name on one. Holden Special Vehicles says the ‘20 Years of Maloo R8’ is a celebration of the iconic Aussie Performance Ute with an all-round package delivering an exclusive blend of design, performance, and technology”.
Visually the 20 Years ute has unique “Vector” E-vents and hood scoops, a special design of 20-inch alloy wheels in black highlight (these were initially seen on the HSV GTs.
Inside, the limited edition Maloo will have HSV’s Enhanced Driver Interface (EDI) that includes satellite navigation
HSV’s Side Blind Zone Alert (SBZA) is part of the package and will be handy for drivers who don’t know how to adjust the door mirrors correctly.
Rear park assist with reverse camera is very useful for tight spot parking so has been fitted as standard.
HSV’s bi-modal exhaust gives a delightful sound, particularly when you really get stuck into that pedal on the right so it certainly deserves its place in the ‘20 Years of Maloo R8’
Prices for the ‘20 Years of Maloo R8’ are $67,900 (recommended retail price) for the six-speed manual, with the automatic transmission coming in at $69,900.
Where better to debut the HSV ‘20 Years of Maloo R8’ ute than at the Deni Ute Muster in early October. It will be displayed at HSV showrooms Australian wide at about the same time. But we strongly recommend you talk to your favourite HSV dealer before then.
