Honda Jazz takes a different approach in small car styling and has appealed to Australian buyers since its latest generation was introduced here in 2008. Our review at the time described it as being a small car that could easily be used as a large one, because its interior space is large enough to carry four adults in reasonable comfort, we said that two adults and a couple of kids would find the Jazz positively spacious.
The Jazz’s cabin practicality is further enhanced by seats that fold completely flat in various combinations to give voluminous carrying ability.
Honda recently facelifted the Jazz to give it a cheekier look, doing so by altering the shape of the radiator grille and giving it the sporty mesh look that’s all the rage at the moment. At the same time the taillights got the bright look of LED. The latter not only changes the car’s appearance, but also adds slightly to the safety of the car as these lights come on a fraction sooner than conventional units and may just prevent a tailgater from crashing.
New colours, with the interesting titles of Fresh Lime Green and Polished Metal have been added to the Jazz’s already strong colour palette.
Inside, the Honda Jazz gets a satin look to the centre console. Just as importantly it also has USB connectivity and Bluetooth availability.
On the downside, the styling of this cute Honda hatch tends to appeal more to female buyers than male, so it hasn’t sold as well as initially anticipated.
Jazz is now equipped with a full suite of safety gear, including six airbags, and every model scored the maximum of five stars in Australian crash testing.
Honda’s Jazz is easy to drive and park due to its compact dimensions and good outwards visibility in all directions. It is offered with a 1.3- or 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine and comes in several variants ranging in price from $16,990 to $22,690, the latter being a reduction of $1000 on the previous topline Jazz VTi-S model.
Based on the theme of the aforementioned practical interior, Honda Australia is about to launch a major advertising campaign featuring the versatility of Jazz’s interior to let the Japanese maker grab a bigger slice of the ever-growing small-car market in this country. This may be a great time to squeeze a deal out of your Honda dealer as these guys and gals can get hyped up during campaigns like this. |
