Hot on the heels of the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class coupe comes the ultra hot AMG variant - this is one aimed at the very serious driving enthusiast.
AMG’s Black Series – it refers to the engineering quality, not the colour – sits at the pinnacle of the prestigious German marque’s range. The Series has only been on the market for five years, but in that time has gained an excellent reputation for engineering and competence.
Powered by the latest edition of AMG’s 6.2-litre V8 engine which produces 510 horsepower (380 kW) the Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Black can accelerate from rest to 100 km/h in only 4.2 seconds, yet has an officially measured fuel consumption of just 12.2 litres per hundred kilometres. More than ever engineers are squeezing the maximum possible efficiency out of their power plants and that fuel number is exceptional. Much of the initial work on this engine was done for it’s installation in the AMG SLS Gullwing.
Visually, the AMG version of the C-Class coupe is distinguished by having larger air intakes for both the radiator and brakes. The traditional Mercedes-Benz three-pointed star certainly dominates the frontal area. The bumper is revised to give an arrow-head appearance said to mimic that of the Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix car.
Nineteen-inch wheels in a similar grey shade to those seen on the stunning Mercedes Gullwing complete the exterior package. The wheels carry 255 mm tyres at the front and big 285 numbers at the rear.
The Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Black Series will be available to only to a limited number of lucky people when it reaches Australia midway through 2012. The local importer is trying to grab as many cars as possible, but based on previous special models they will have hot competition from other countries. Expect the price to be somewhere in the vicinity of $200,000, though naturally Mercedes-Benz Australia won’t talk dollars at this time. |
