Arriving in Australia this month is Audi’s latest iteration of the highly successful A6 allroad quattro. With versatility bred in its genes, the new A6 allroad quattro now boasts more power and less consumption for the 2009 Model Year.

Priced at $108,900 and featuring the latest generation quattro permanent all-wheel drive with 40:60 torque split and adaptive air suspension for variable ground clearance as standard equipment, the Audi A6 allroad quattro is equally at home on highways and city centres as it is on gravel tracks.

Based on Audi’s progressive performance philosophy, which promotes low fuel consumption and low emissions, with improved engine performance, the 3.0 TDI V6 engine in the allroad quattro has a combined fuel consumption of just 7.5 litres / 100kms. This is a reduction of 15% from the previous engine. CO2 emissions are 199 g/km and a diesel particulate filter is fitted as standard.

This new generation TDI engine employs common rail technology which gives the new A6 allroad quattro its outstanding torque characteristics and exceptionally low fuel consumption and emissions. The basis for this is common rail direct injection technology with Piezo injectors. The common rail system can generate an injection pressure of up to 1,800 bar. The high-speed, high-precision Piezo injectors enable up to five injections of fuel per working cycle. The flexibility of the number of injections taking place during each working cycle and their timing ensures that the cylinders are supplied with precisely the right amount of fuel for the current engine load and speed. An optimised power steering pump is equipped with intelligent actuation so that energy requirements are lower and fuel consumption is reduced.

True to Audi’s philosophy, performance has not suffered as a result. The A6 allroad quattro sprints from zero to 100km/h in just 7.4 seconds, an improvement of 0.4 seconds, with a top speed of 233km/h. Power in the new generation diesel engine has increased to 176 kW (+5 kW), and is available from 4,000 to 4,400 rpm. Torque has also increased, up +50 Nm to 500 Nm, on tap from 1,500 to 3,000 rpm.

The 3.0-litre TDI engine is mated to a 6-speed tiptronic with DSP and sports program.

Standard equipment has also been enhanced with the inclusion of new design 18" 10-spoke design alloy wheels and Bluetooth mobile phone preparation. This is in addition to the already well-specified A6 allroad quattro that includes Audi backguard, front, side and head curtain airbags, ESP with off-road mode, Audi rear parking system, automatic headlight and rain sensor, leather upholstery, cruise control, 10 speaker sound system, leather multi-function steering wheel and storage package.
